This Mandarin play, commissioned by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) and presented by Nine Years Theatre (NYT), is part of Cultural Extravaganza 2025.
Warm, witty, and nostalgic, the production written and directed by Nelson Chia, runs on 10, 11, 17, and 18 May 2025 at the SCCC Auditorium.

Synopsis
Gim Hiang Restaurant is a Teochew restaurant that has been passed down through three generations. The current owner, Lau Dua Gim, ruled the kitchen with tradition, pride, and a razor-sharp cleaver for decades. But as business challenges rise and tastes evolve, he starts to wonder if the old ways can survive.
When his youngest son Zhi Ren, a Paris-trained sous chef from a Michelin-starred restaurant came back to Singapore for a visit, he tried to bring in fresh eyes and bold ideas. But once he picks up a knife, buried tensions come to a boil. Will Teochew traditions hold firm, or is it time for a new flavour?
Expect laughter, heartfelt moments, and a good dose of chaos as father and son clash over food, family, and the future.
The star-studded local cast includes Rei Poh, Joel Tan, Audrey Luo, Tim Wan, Jodi Chan, Regina Toon, Xuan Ong, Janice Seah, and Choy Chee Yew.

《家囝成厨》的故事设定在一家传承三代的潮州餐馆“锦香”。餐馆里油锅滋滋作响、老火汤不断翻滚,厨房里不仅有香气四溢的料理,更有一触即发的家庭矛盾。
在经营三代的潮州餐馆“金香园”,炉火旺,汤滚热,但最滚烫的还是刘家的脾气!
刘大金,这家传承三代的潮州菜馆老板,几十年来凭着一手好厨艺,稳坐“厨房霸主”宝座,以一双铁手、一把菜刀和一张利嘴,严守潮州菜的传统。然而,时代变了,租金涨了,顾客的口味也逐渐多元化。大金开始思考,“金香园”还能撑多久?
就在这时,小儿子智仁拎着行李回来了——从米其林星级餐厅副主厨的高光舞台,踏回这间油烟味十足的老店。从小对烹饪充满热情的他,原本被寄予厚望能接手家业,却选择远赴巴黎学习厨艺。在米其林星级餐厅历练五年,从学徒一路晋升为副主厨。如今,他回到新加坡探亲,再次踏进金香园的厨房,面对熟悉的灶台,手握刀具,过去的记忆与父亲的期待一齐涌上心头。
可时间变了,人也变了。
刀一拿起,父子间的矛盾就炸开了锅。大金坚信潮州菜的灵魂在于代代相传的手艺,而智仁认为传统并非一成不变,而是可以在坚守中找到新的表达方式。一场关于味道与传承的讨论逐渐升级,甚至牵动了整个家族。
