Essential Eames: A Herman Miller Exhibition

Essential Eames: A Herman Miller Exhibition will open at the Marina Bay Sands ArtScience Museum from 29th Jun 2013 till 5th Jan 2014. Based on An Eames Primer by Eames Demetrios, the exhibition traces the lives and works of the most famous couple in design – Charles and Ray Eames. Co-presented by ArtScience Museum and Herman Miller in collaboration with the Eames Office, Essential Eames will showcase 100 pieces of rare and never-before-seen works and images from the Eames’ family collection, The Eames Office, and Herman Miller archives.

I was invited to the media preview of Marina Bay Sands ArtScience Museum’s latest exhibition, Essential Eames: A Herman Miller Exhibition.

Before attending the event, I have the misconception that:

  1. This will probably be an furniture exhibition which showcase the creation of Charles and Ray Eames.
  2. Award designs == design that are nice to look at but usually not practical T__T
Wrong! 不对!ちがう!

This exhibition is about these (let my photos do the talking):

Interesting quotes spotted at the ceiling at the entrance!
In fact, there are a lot of pleasant surprise “UP there” in the various galleries! ^_^

It’s not about the furniture, it’s about life, Charles and Ray Eames’ life.
I can’t help but giggle when I saw the proposal letter 🙂

Interesting quotes – simple. direct. humble.
All educators will be well aware on the importance of play…
and ehh I believe the toys and games Charles Eames mentioned are not referring to the electronics toys and games. 🙂

I love these batch of installations hanging on top of the gallery 🙂

Can you see the markings? Those are indicators on which part of the chair to work on.

I love this Nelson Marshmallow Sofa! Wish I can have one for my future home

Guess what Charles and Ray Eames collect? Mr. Eames Demetrios, the couple’s grandson, shares with you…
