My first trip to Da Nang, Vietnam (Part 1)

I had been wanting to visit Vietnam, but Kpo Kia Papa wasn’t so keen. I guess the law of attraction eventually allowed me to enjoy a 2 day 1 night trip to Da Nang, Vietnam.

Although the trip is slightly less than 3 hours, there are only 3 direct flights from Singapore to Da Nang a day.

It’s wet season in Da Nang so it’s no surprise to see it raining when I reached the airport.

As our schedule was very packed, we were rushed to the hotel to drop off our items before we went for our lunch.

Marble Mountains

On our way to lunch, we passed by the Marble Mountains, a cluster of five limestone peaks located about seven kilometers from downtown Da Nang. Known as Ngu Hanh Son in Vietnamese, each of the five formations represents one of the elements: Kim (metal), Thuỷ (water), Mộc (wood), Hoả (fire), and Thổ (earth). For centuries, the Marble Mountains have held deep cultural and spiritual importance for the people of Central Vietnam. The ancient Cham people regarded it as a sacred site.

Lunch at Nha nau – Vietnameses Cuisine

Our ‘guide’ brought us to Nhà Nâu – Ẩm Thực Việt for lunch. According to her, the direct translation of the restaurant’s name in English is ‘Brown House’. Vietnamese commonly name their shops with the word Nhà, meaning ‘House’, and Nâu translated to Brown.

The fishball soup is nice, a bit peppery and sour, but refreshing. Interestingly, first time seeing pineapple in soup.

Not sure what fish is this, by the time I tried, it’s a bit lukewarm. But it’s quite fresh.

After half a day of ‘touring’ and meeting, we proceed with our dinner at Boom Beer Restaurant.

First time trying this type of rice paper - googled that it's Coconut rice paper, very fragrant with black sesame. This toasted garlic chili peanut is crunchy and spicy, quite addictive but a bit spicy for me.

These small shrimp are quite nice to eat, but I didn't dare to eat too much as I just had my ear pierced the weekend before the trip.

I didn’t try the chicken as I was quite full by the time it’s served. Colleague told me it’s a bit dry.

Fun Fact:
I realized that most of the dishes served to us were bony, so out of curiosity, I asked our guide if Vietnamese people enjoy bony food. She shared that it’s common for locals to enjoy chewing on bones while eating.
